The Early Childhood Programs are an integral part of Forest Lake Area Schools (FLAS). We work together to assure that children transition smoothly into kindergarten.
The program offers before and after school childcare, non-school days (NSD) and summer childcare. Fees are listed in the current fee schedule online. The program opens at 6am and closes at 6pm.
Prerequisite, passed Alpha.
Skaters must demonstrate 6 backward crossovers in a row with no toe-pushes in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. Both T-stops must have speed going in and come to a complete stop using the outside edge of the back skate. During backward stroking, skaters should hold the glide portion for 3 seconds. The T-stops are the most difficult element in this level.
Participants will start in Alpha and progress to Delta. The difficulty of each skill will increase with each level. Some of the skills you will learn include right and left outside edge 3-turns, bunny hops, backward crossovers and more. If you have not participated in Community Education’s Skating Lessons in the past, you must register for Tots or Pre-Alpha first. Skaters are evaluated regularly and when the Skating Director feels a skater has mastered all of the skills in their level, they will be moved up to the next level/class. Skaters must officially test out of each level and demonstrate skills in accordance with ISI national testing standards.
If you have questions about your skater's eligibility, please contact Melanie at 651-982-8392 or mhaas@flaschools.org
