Based on your individual needs, you will be guided through activities and materials to help you meet your educational goals. English as a Second Language – Are you or someone you know interested in improving their English? Foreign-born adults are welcome to work one-on-one or in small groups with teachers or tutors to improve their English skills. Students can enter the program with any level of English language skill and move through the program at their own pace. Family Learning - This is an ideal program for parents with young children who want to work on their own learning goals. Children attend preschool or childcare programs while parents participate in parent education classes and work on goals that may include GED, English or basic skills.   • GED Test Preparation

    Work individually or in small groups with the guidance of a licensed teacher to prepare for taking your GED tests. We will determine where you need extra support in order to pass all four sections of the GED test. You will have access to instructional materials and timed practice tests. You and your instructor will determine when you are prepared to take each section of the computer based version of the GED. GED-i online test preparation is available on a limited basis to learners who qualify.
  • Lap Swim

    The FLAS Community Pool, located at the Education Center, is a six lane, 25-yard pool that is a great place for a morning workout. Pre-registration is preferred. However, space permitting, in-person drop ins are allowed for a fee of $10 paid by check or cash (please bring correct change). You can register for this class either online or by calling 651-982-8110.
  • Basketball - Adult

    This is an adult recreation league with a minimum age of 18 to register. Recreational basketball is a great workout and a good time for both new and returning players. Players organize full court or cross court pick-up games and often play shirts and skins. A yellow or gold t-shirt can be worn as an alternative to skins. Pre-registration is required. Register on a week to week basis ($7 each). Registration closes at 4pm each Wednesday. We request that players bring their own ball.
  • Soccer - Adult Indoor Co-ed

    Join us for indoor soccer (Futsal). What is Futsal? Futsal offers fast-paced, action-packed games in a gymnasium with a smaller ball. Games will be organized by the volunteer game coordinator. Substitutes will rotate in from the sideline so everyone gets a chance to play. Whether you're experienced or new to soccer, we welcome everyone. Join us for exhilarating match-ups and opportunities to grow as a player and a member of our dynamic soccer-loving community.

    Energize your body while gaining flexibility and strength through the practice of yoga. Using yoga poses, you will stretch and tone muscles while strengthening joints and improving your balance.   • Yoga - Specifically for Adults Over 50

    Studies show that yoga practice positively correlates with both physical and mental wellness as well as managing pain and inflammation, improving sleep quality and much more. We will combine gentle physical poses with mindfulness and breathing in this beginning yoga practice. Our focus will be on functional mobility, balance and working to release stress and stiffness. Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga mat and a bottle of water. Space permitting, drop ins are allowed for a fee of $12 paid by check or cash (please bring correct change).   • Pickleball Lessons - Beginner

    Join the fastest growing sport in America by learning to play pickleball. This beginner class is designed as a drill and play format. You will learn how to keep score, serve and return the serve along with hitting forehand, backhand, dinking, lobbing and court strategies. This course is taught with passion and humor by PPR Coach and multi-Gold Medalist, Michael Lammer. Wear comfortable clothes, athletic shoes and bring a bottle of water. You do not need to purchase a paddle before class, as Michael will bring a variety of demo paddles for you to try.
  • Pickleball Clinic - Advanced Beginner

    This class is ideal for any player who has taken a beginner class or drill session and would like to enhance their basic strokes: top spin serve, forehand, backhand, dinking, drop shot and volley. Learn advanced court positioning and hitting strategies. Players should wear comfortable clothes, court/athletic shoes and bring a bottle of water. Coach Michael will provide demo paddles for any player.
  • Women's Self-Defense Seminar Age 15+

    Learn and practice the strategies and skills to protect yourself from attack situations that are common and unique to women. You will learn the preemptive tactics, escape maneuvers, verbal interventions, physical techniques, effective use of self-defense devices and other counter-attack skill sets to quickly end a potentially dangerous encounter. Adopt the mindset of a confident victor through a strong emphasis of empowering the mind to prevail in an assault.
  • Oak Savanna Hike at Fish Lake Nature Trail

    This trail winds through several distinct ecosystems - a sand prairie, Fish Lake and the bur oak savanna —one of Minnesota’s rarest wildlife habitats. We will discuss and observe red-headed woodpeckers, other flora and fauna and the role of bison and other management techniques to maintain this highly endangered plant community. There will be opportunities to stop and listen and look for birds and other animals or their nests and tracks. Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring water, snacks and binoculars, if you have them.
  • Yoga - Hatha Flow

    Build strength while you lengthen and stretch your body by aligning ligaments through this gentle yoga practice. Yoga postures are connected with fluid movements that synchronize with your breathing to help reduce stress and improve balance. This class is most appropriate for people with experience in yoga, however, those new to yoga are welcome. The instructor will incorporate the fundamentals of yoga and how to move between yoga poses while you build confidence to move on to more challenging poses. Space permitting, in person drop ins are allowed for a fee of $12 (correct change required). Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga mat and a bottle of water. You will be provided with a link prior to class.
  • Stained Glass Panel - Beginner

    Learn to create a beautiful stained glass window. Choose from a variety of beginner patterns, select the glass and then learn to score and break it, grind it down to match the pattern and assemble the pieces by bending a thin copper foil over the edges before soldering it all together. You will go home with an amazing creation you can hang in your window and the knowledge of how to do it again. All the tools and supplies will be provided. A supply fee of $30 will be collected the first night of class. Please wear shirts with a crew neck and hard finish like denim or t-shirt material; chips of glass will stick in sweaters or fleece. Most of the glass chips will end up by your feet so wear shoes with a closed toe and a hard sole (no Crocs).

    Even if you’ve never held knitting needles, you can learn the basics of knitting including cast-on, knit, purl and bind-off. These four skills will set you up for success with many different knitting projects. Under the guidance of an experienced knitter, you will combine the four basic skills of knitting to start you on your way to your knitting adventure. Please bring a pair of wood knitting needles in size 10, a skein of light colored worsted weight (#4) yarn, scissors and a darning needle with a large eye.

    Whether you are the bride, the groom or a guest at a wedding, this workshop will give you the skills needed to get out on the dance floor! The basics and some fun patterns will be covered in Foxtrot, Swing, Nightclub Two Step and Slow Dance. This is a great way for the entire wedding party to have fun and get the dancing started with style.

We will cover a wide variety of topics and answer your questions about watering, fertilizing, weed identification and more. Learn how to prep your lawn for winter so you have a yard that is the envy of the neighborhood in the spring. Participants will receive a folder full of great information and a native plant book. Several door prizes will be given away from local plant specialists.
  • Nashville: See the Sights of Music City

    Saturday, September 20-27, 2025 (Must be at least 21 years old.) Grab your friends and your cowboy boots. Community Education is heading to Nashville! Saturday, Sept 20: Sit back and relax and let us do all the driving. We’ll travel by motorcoach beginning Saturday morning. On the bus a muffin and fruit will be provided. Before dinner we will stop to purchase food/snacks (on your own) at a bathroom stop, you can also bring your own lunch on the bus. We’ll stop at a dinner buffet at Fiddlesticks in Hannibal, MO and then head to the Drury Inn St. Louis for an overnight stay. Sunday, Sept 21: Before leaving St. Louis, we’ll visit the famous Gateway Arch, (admission, movie and tram ride and lunch is included). Dinner is included this evening when we arrive in Nashville, at Nicky’s Coal Fired Pizza. Once in Nashville, get ready for a variety of famous and exciting sights and sounds in this thriving musical city. Our accommodations will be at the Drury Inn Nashville which includes a free hot breakfast and a free kick back happy hour, including hot food and cold drinks, daily. https://www.druryhotels.com/menu. The Drury Inn Nashville is a great location, just off of Broadway, so you have easy access to bars and restaurants. Nashville Highlights: Monday, Sept 22: We are going to start our time in Nashville with some big attractions! We will have a guided tour of the original Grand Ole Opry location- the historic Ryman Auditorium. A buffet lunch at a nearby restaurant is included. After lunch we will visit the Country Music Hall of Fame. Tour the Hall of Fame at your leisure and make your way back to the hotel, which is only just a few blocks away. Dinner this evening can be at the Drury Inn, or choose to do something on your own. Tuesday, Sept 23: Our day will begin with a tour of the Belle Meade Historic Site & Mansion. A wine tasting and time to shop will be included. For lunchtime/midday, you may choose on your own. We will go for an early dinner at Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen before heading to the fabulous Grand Ole Opry. We’ll update you when we receive information on who will be performing for us that evening! Wednesday, Sept 24: Today we’ll enjoy a tour of the Andrew Jackson Hermitage historical museum in the morning, lunch is included. On The way back to the hotel we’ll stop at the Opryland hotel. It is free to walk through their amazing inside gardens. You may have dinner at the Drury Inn, or choose something on your own. Thursday, Sept 25: Spend the day at your own leisure. You will have a ticket for the Hop on Hop Off Trolley, this is a great and convenient way to do more exploring and see more of Nashville. In the evening we’ll set sail on the elegant General Jackson showboat, which includes dinner and a show. Friday, Sept 26: We’ll depart Nashville in the morning, lunch will be included. We’ll stop in Hannibal Mo, at the Best Western Downtown on the river. Dinner will be on your own, with several restaurants to choose from that are within walking distance. Saturday, Sept 27: Breakfast will be included at the hotel. We will make several stops on the way home for snacks/food and the bathroom. There will be no formal lunch stop. We will return to Circle Pines around 6pm. Price: Double Room Occupancy: $2,189 per person - $449 initial deposit, and subsequent payments on the 15th of $435 for March-June.   • Forest Lake Area Community Orchestra Informational Meeting Age 15-Adult

    Join us at this informational meeting to learn all about the Forest Lake Area Community Orchestra! It’s open to all levels of musicians who play traditional string instruments (violin, viola, cellos, bass) and enjoy practicing and performing in an orchestra! The purpose of the group is to contribute positively to the musical environment of the Forest Lake area community. We will enjoy reading and playing a repertoire of varied styles ranging from string standards to inspiring contemporary pieces. Under the direction of Dave Livermore and Lara MacLean, the Orchestra will perform in various venues (to be announced) in the community. No audition required. The Community Orchestra meets most Mondays throughout the school year.
