The Early Childhood Programs are an integral part of Forest Lake Area Schools (FLAS). We work together to assure that children transition smoothly into kindergarten.
The program offers before and after school childcare, non-school days (NSD) and summer childcare. Fees are listed in the current fee schedule online. The program opens at 6am and closes at 6pm.
Have you always wanted to make a patchwork blanket with all your scraps of yarn, but the thought of sewing all those squares together gives you the heebie-jeebies? A mitered square blanket is the answer to your dilemma. Mitered squares blankets (often called memory blankets as they are made from scraps of yarn you have used in other projects) are individual squares that you knit together as you go. For this class we will knit four squares and connect them as we go into one larger square. Participants must already know the knit and purl stitches. You will learn how to cable cast-on, slip stitch, double decrease (knitting three stitches together) and cable cast off.
Please bring size 6,7,8 or 9 knitting needles - straight or circular (24-32” is a nice length for circulars), darning needle, scissors, crochet hook (size E is a good size), stitch markers. Optional - 2-4 different colors of worsted weight yarn – cotton or acrylic is fine. Scrap yarn is fine as you will not need much.
