Boys Soccer League Entering KindergartenAthletics & RecreationSoccer League will focus on improving the basic skills of dribbling, trapping, passing, receiving, game positions and offensive/defensive techniques. During registration, please select the elementary school the participant attends. Boys Soccer League will practice on Mondays and play games on Wednesdays starting July 12. Games will start at either 6:15pm or 7:15pm and be played at Columbus Elementary. After the coaches meeting, volunteer coaches will communicate what time your practice will be held. Program times of 5:15-8:15p are the hours of when activities could happen, the actual commitment would be 1 hour of practice and 1 hour for a game each week. What to bring: soccer cleats (rubber only) or tennis shoes, black shorts, shin guards and a bottle of water every day. Basketball - Private LessonsAthletics & RecreationPrivate basketball lessons are the most effective way to enhance your basketball skills through coach directed skills, drills, and fun games. In these sessions you are given one on one attention to help you understand exactly what your individual strengths and weaknesses are and how to effectively and quickly improve your game. Reasons to receive private basketball lessons include: becoming a better basketball player, making a hoops club team, making the school team, or getting a scholarship to play in college. Whatever your goal is as a basketball player, private lessons will help you make that goal a reality. Lessons will be with our Forest Lake Area Middle School Basketball Coach Shaun Dorothy. Shaun also coaches elementary basketball for both Community Education and our local traveling association, FL Hoops Club. Girls Basketball CampAthletics & RecreationEntering Grades 2-10 This camp will provide the opportunity to develop individual basketball fundamentals from the Forest Lake Area High School Girls Basketball coaches and players. Students will also participate in team play and live game situations (based on age-level and ability) and have the opportunity to improve their basketball knowledge and court sense. The camp will teach fundamentals and enhance skill development through a series of instructional situations. Rangers Multi-Sports CampAthletics & RecreationGirls & Boys Ages 6-12 This multi-sport camp is an introduction to a variety of sports as well as other fun yard games throughout the week including but not limited to flag football, basketball, baseball and soccer. Days are divided into focused sport play, free play, lunch/break time and multi-sport games. The camp is held at the Forest Lake Area Middle School and led by Forest Lake Area Schools Staff as well as college student athletes that are Forest Lake and other local high school Alumni. Participants should wear sport appropriate clothing and shoes, bring two nut/peanut free snacks, sunscreen and a bottle of water every day. This foundation will allow them to start to rally with each other by the end of the class. Games that reinforce the form will also be mixed in throughout the program. Participants are evaluated regularly and when the coaches feel that a participant has mastered all of the skills in their level, they will be moved up to the next level/class. Beginner/Red: Age 5 - Grade 6 with 1 year or less of tennis lessons. Register for 1641-S22A (students K-grade 3) Register for 1641-S22B (students grades 4-6) Intermediate/Advanced participants should already be familiar with the proper form for all of the strokes. The class will perform a review of the form for all the strokes but quickly move to rally play. It is the goal of this class to prepare students to actually play a game of tennis on a full court. Students not performing at an intermediate/advanced level may be asked to move down to the beginner level. Intermediate/Orange : Age 5 - Grade 6 with 2-3 years of tennis lessons. Tennis Clinic Grades 7-12Athletics & RecreationSimilar to our Competitive Tennis Camp, this 8-week camp will continue to work on all aspects of the game from technical to tactical. Each day will consist of grips, footwork, offense/defense, singles/doubles strategy and sportsmanship, proper technique and grips for a variety of strokes like groundstrokes (underspin/topspin), volleys, lobs, overheads, approach shots, serves, returns, blocks and drop shots. Coaches will use a mix of closed and open drills, allowing for students to improve strokes and apply what they’ve learned through play. Games, competitive play, and skits round out this camp to ensure it’s a fun time for all! Participants should wear sport appropriate clothing and shoes, bring two nut/peanut free snacks, sunscreen and a bottle of water every day. This clinic will have two time options based of previous tennis experience and the high school tennis programs participation. Pole Vaulting Age 9-AdultAthletics & RecreationDream of flying? First time or experienced students, ages nine to adults, are encouraged to join us. Equipment, safety, pole care, run/approach, plant and swing up along with having fun will be the main emphasis. Space is limited so we can have a 1 to 5 coach to vaulter ratio. Family discount: each additional family member registered for a class will receive a 30% discount.
