    What is early childhood screening?Early Childhood Screening is a free and simple check of how your child is growing, developing and learning.  It is a review of your child's height, weight, hearing, vision, speech, language, motor and cognitive development.  Screening at 3 is preferred, but a child may be screened between the ages of 3 and the start of kindergarten as required by law.Screening is not an examination to determine readiness for school, but to screen for potential problems that may interfere with a child's ability to be successful.  Early screening and intervention promotes early success.Information to note:A copy of current immunizations and a copy of the birth certificate will be needed.If you need to cancel your appointment, please call 651-982-8301.If you need to schedule a "re-screen" for vision or hearing, please call, 651-982-8301.For screening appointments, please allow 1 1/2 -2 hours.Upon completion of the registration, please do not forget to "Check out".  This will confirm your appointment.

  • WIC Early Childhood Screening

    What is early childhood screening?It is a FREE health and developmental screening for children and is best done between the age of 3 1/2 and 4 years. The screening includes checking a child’s height, weight, hearing, vision, speech, language, motor and cognitive development. A nurse will discuss the results of each child’s screening with the family and provide resources and referrals as needed.Why do early childhood screening?Early childhood screening before entrance into public school kindergarten is required by Minnesota State law. Screening is also required for enrollment in preschool classes at Forest Lake Area schools. Screening is NOT an examination to determine readiness for school. Rather, the purpose is to screen for potential problems that may interfere with a child’s ability to be successful in school. Early screening and intervention promote early success.
