Music Lessons - Orchestra Chamber Group Grades 7-12

Youth Secondary Grade 7-12 / Classes & Activities -
Spr/Sum 2024 (Apr-Aug)

This camp will be a refreshing change for students that play a stringed instrument to experience fun duets, trios and quartets by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and more! Students can form their own group of 2-5 players or they will be placed into groups by grade and level for an hour long lesson. Indicate your preferred lesson times during registration. Sessions will focus on strengthening students’ ability to keep a steady beat and rhythm, musicianship skills and technique to enable each person to play their part of a beautiful masterpiece! At the end of the week we will have a small, casual recital at a local venue.

I graduated from St. Olaf college with a Bachelor of Music (BM) in Education. At St. Olaf College, I also continued my love of Asian Studies and the Chinese Language. While at St. Olaf I pursued my Concentration Major in Asian Studies as I love studying Chinese and different languages and my BM in Music Education. At St. Olaf I performed in chamber groups and was a first violinist in the St. Olaf Orchestra. While studying at St. Olaf College, I had many performance opportunities such as performing in our annual Christmas Festival which was taped live for TPT. Garrison Keillor had our orchestra perform as special guests on his Prairie Home Companion Radio Show.

I received my Masters in Education from the University of St. Catherine. I have studied with numerous violin teachers from the age of 6. Cheryl Stewart (Minnesota Orchestra), Aaron Janse (Minnesota Orchestra), Dr. Andrea Een (St. Olaf College, Minnesota Opera) and Elsa Nilsson (St. Paul Chamber Orchestra).

I have attended numerous music festivals and earned scholarships to attend music programs such as Eastern Music Festival, Bravo Chamber Camp and Aria. I am a proud alum of the Minnesota Youth Symphonies and participated in MYS from first grade to my senior year under the baton of Manny and Claudette Laureano. I have played in the Metropolitan orchestra as a first violinist under the baton of William Schrickel. I greatly enjoyed subbing and performing in various orchestra concerts at The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, Wisconsin.

Presently, I am very happy teaching and directing my 6-8th grade Orchestra in the Forest Lake Area School District and our Pop Orchestra. I have taught orchestra in the Forest Lake Area Schools for over 19 years and I still love what I do every day because of my amazing students. I also love to teach private lessons and I have my own studio at my home in White Bear and also through Community Education through the Forest Lake School District and White Bear District. I love teaching and sharing my passion of strings with my students of all ages. I enjoy learning new ways of teaching and incorporating those ideas into my teaching. One new thing I would like to explore is the different string instruments around the world. Some hobbies of mine are playing my violin and piano, painting and hiking.

My husband, Adam and I have three kids that also play instruments and love the outdoors. We love going up north and exploring trails in Duluth. This year, we enjoyed our vacation at Disney World and our favorite rides were the Star Wars rides and all the good food and rides at Epcot!
