  • Walking Club

    You know the many benefits of walking, now make it a fun exercise by walking with others! Members will meet at Forest Lake City Center and can break into smaller groups based on participant’s preferred speed and distance. Walks will take place on the Hardwood Creek Trail or on residential streets. A partnership with Fairview, Allina, OSI Physical Therapy and other health organizations will allow a different health professional to share information and walk with the group each week.   • Tabata Bootcamp

    Tabata is a form of interval training that utilizes a variety of training techniques and equipment. It’s designed to burn the maximum amount of calories and fat in the shortest amount of time. This 45 minute workout is designed for people of all fitness levels who want results without a lengthy cardio workout. Modifications are provided for each exercise, so you can find the one that challenges you the most. Please wear exercise clothing, bring a water bottle and a yoga mat if you have one. Drop in fee is $10. Saturday morning class will be held at North Lakes Academy Middle School, 255 7th Ave NW, Suite B, Forest Lake.
  • Walkers Welcome

    The Central Learning Center, Forest Lake Area High School and Wyoming Elementary are open for walkers! Avoid the snow, ice, rain and traffic. Come walk in a safe and controlled climate. Walk one, two or more times each week. Walkers will be sent an identification badge and complete schedule upon registration. Badge must be worn while walking. Sorry, we are unable to offer accommodations for personal belongings. Registration fee allows you to walk at any of the three schools until May 2018. Please arrive before 8pm in the evening. While walking is available until 8:30pm, the building will be locked at 8pm.

    Originating in China, Tai Chi is an effective yet gentle exercise that relieves pain and stress as well as improves concentration and posture. Tai Chi will increase your flexibility, ease stiffness in your joints and enhance the flow of energy. A review of the 12 movements and nine new movements will be covered during the eight week sessions. Beginners Tai Chi is a prerequisite to Tai Chi 2. Wear comfortable clothing, flat shoes and bring a water bottle.

    Turbo Kick® is an interval based, full body workout that begins with a sports-specific warm-up. High-paced intervals will be followed by kickboxing-specific strength/endurance training sequences and easy-to-follow combinations.

    Mindfulness Practice is the ancient method of self-understanding and self-management. It is used widely for handling pain and stress, habit control, and dealing with painful emotions and disturbing thoughts. It leads to deep self-knowledge and self-management skills that make life richer. The content of the practice is simply our own experiences of body and mind with no ideology. It is compatible with any self-development practices you do. Please wear loose clothing for comfort. The teaching is cumulative, so attendance at all meetings is most encouraged.
  • Couch to 5K Club

    Get off the couch and get ready to run! Learn the importance of stretching, training techniques and running strategies under the guidance of an experienced and accomplished runner. Beginning runners will be prepared to run a 5K; experienced runners will be helped to improve running times. Runners will be expected to journal runs throughout, so bring paper and a writing utensil. Most running will be done on the school track and the group will have access to the gym for indoor training in case of inclement weather.

    Use circuit training, shadowboxing, hand pads and an array of punching bags to learn the basics of boxing and get a great workout! Gain balance and coordination while learning punch combinations and proper fighting stance. This fun workout will help you reduce stress, lose weight and build confidence. Wear comfortable workout clothes and athletic shoes. Bring a water bottle and a towel. A supply fee of $8 for hand wraps is payable to the instructor on the first night of class. These boots take 80% of the impact off of your joints and allow for a great cardio workout that doesn't take a toll on your body. Working out in rebound boots delivers maximum results in cardio endurance and increases muscle and bone density. You can bring your own boots or rent them for use in class from the instructor for $60 - payable to the instructor on the first night of class.
