In partnership with the Forest Lake Hockey Association (FLHA), the Intro to Hockey program introduces children to the great sport of hockey. Participants must have completed a Tots Skating Lessons or have some skating ability and be able to stand up on the ice without assistance. Each class of Intro to Hockey expands on basic skating skills in a hockey environment by utilizing small area games with an emphasis on FUN! Skaters will be separated by skill level so that they can focus on the most appropriate course of development. Lowest levels will focus on expanding basic skating skills while higher levels will begin to incorporate hockey play, stickhandling and age appropriate drillsFull hockey equipment is required and should include skates, helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey pants, gloves and shin pads. You must supply your own skates (seasonal skate rentals are available from Forest Lake Cycle & Skate). A mouth guard and protective cup are recommended. Hockey jersey and hockey socks are included in the cost.Intro to Hockey is a defined curriculum and professional instruction but still relies heavily on on-ice parent volunteers that have some hockey experience. Volunteers must have skates and wear a helmet on the ice. We encourage you to indicate your willingness to assist at the time of registration. The lead instructor will guide all activities so no training is necessary. We are not able to offer this class without the help of our parent volunteers! Please note: Intro to Hockey will be in the fieldhouse on the following dates: Nov 4, Nov 11 and Dec 9. The fieldhouse is colder, so please make sure your child is dressed properly.
